Milan Design Week 2027: the Salone del Mobile, the Fuorisalone and where to stay

Published 10 November 2023 · updated 21 September 2026 · 7 min read

Milan Design Week 2027 runs from Monday 12 to Sunday 18 April. It’s two things at once: the Salone del Mobile.Milano, the trade fair, from 13 to 18 April at Fiera Milano Rho, open to the general public only on Saturday 17 and Sunday 18; and the Fuorisalone, the events spread across the city, all week. Where to stay depends on where you’ll spend your days: near the red metro line or the suburban railway if you’re mostly at the fair; in Brera, at Porta Garibaldi or near the Darsena if you’re doing the Fuorisalone.

The dates of Milan Design Week 2027

  • Salone del Mobile.Milano: 13 to 18 April 2027, at Fiera Milano Rho, just outside the city. It’s the 65th edition, and it brings back Euroluce, the biennial lighting show. The dates are on the Salone’s website.
  • Fuorisalone: 12 to 18 April 2027, in the city. The 2027 theme is “Design In Relation”. The dates are on fuorisalone.it, the event’s reference platform.

The Fuorisalone starts on the Monday, a day before the fair, and ends with it on the Sunday. If you’re coming only for the events in the city, you have seven days; if you want to get into the fair and don’t work in the trade, you have two.

The Salone del Mobile: who gets in, and when

The Salone is first of all a trade fair for the furniture industry. Admission is by category, and the Salone has already published the 2027 calendar on its exhibitions page:

  • trade professionals: every day, 13 to 18 April;
  • suppliers and producers in the furnishing sector: 16 to 18 April;
  • students: 16 to 18 April;
  • general public: Saturday 17 and Sunday 18 April.

Opening hours are 9.30am to 6.30pm. Tickets are sold online on the Salone’s website, with a discount for early buyers; full-price tickets are also sold at the fair while it’s on. If you’re travelling with children: under-10s aren’t admitted on the trade-only days, and on the public days they go in free.

Alongside the companies’ stands there’s the SaloneSatellite, the show for designers under 35.

Getting to the fair, and from the airports

Fiera Milano Rho is outside the city, but well connected. According to the Salone’s page on getting there:

  • From the city: the M1, the red metro line, to its terminus, Rho Fieramilano; or the passante, the suburban railway, lines S5, S6 and S11, to Rho Fiera. In the centre the passante stops at Porta Garibaldi, Repubblica, Porta Venezia and Dateo, among others.
  • From Malpensa: the Malpensa Express from Terminal 1 to Cadorna, about 37 minutes, then the M1; or the Malpensa Express towards Centrale, getting off at Porta Garibaldi for the passante.
  • From Linate: the M4, the blue metro line, to Dateo and then the passante, or to San Babila and then the M1.
  • From Bergamo (Orio al Serio): the coach to Milano Centrale, then the M2 to Cadorna and the M1.

The Fuorisalone: the week in the city

The Fuorisalone isn’t in a pavilion. Companies, galleries, foundations and studios open their spaces with exhibitions, installations and launches all over Milan. It isn’t a fair and has no central organiser: according to fuorisalone.it, it grew up spontaneously in the early 1980s, and together with the Salone del Mobile it makes up Milan Design Week.

Some areas organise themselves as districts, with their own calendar and map. Two fixed points:

  • Brera Design District, which has already announced its Design Week for 12 to 18 April 2027 on its website;
  • the Tortona area, west of Porta Genova station, with the Superstudio spaces at via Tortona 27: Superstudio describes itself as the heart of the Tortona Design District.

The rest changes every year. Events go up on the fuorisalone.it guide from the end of January, with the map. Look at it before you choose where to stay: that week, how far you can walk matters more than the tram.

Where to stay during Design Week

Of the areas where we manage homes in Milan, four work well that week. What decides it is the fair and the districts where you’ll spend your days.

Brera, for the Fuorisalone on foot

We have a home in Brera, towards the Moscova, a few minutes’ walk from the streets of the Brera Design District. It’s the choice if you’re mainly coming for the events in the city. For the fair you change once: the M2 to Cadorna, then the M1 to Rho.

Porta Garibaldi, between Brera and the suburban railway

Our homes around piazza XXV Aprile are about ten minutes’ walk from Brera and a few steps from Porta Garibaldi station, where the S5, S6 and S11 lines leave for Rho Fiera. It’s the most balanced area if you’re alternating the fair and the Fuorisalone.

Between Porta Venezia and Centrale, for the fair

Our home between Porta Venezia and Milano Centrale station is less than ten minutes’ walk from Lima, on the M1: you reach Rho without changing. It’s the choice if you’re working at the Salone all week and want to be in the city in the evening. If you’re flying into Bergamo, the coach stops at Centrale, a short walk away.

Darsena and the Navigli, near the Tortona area

Our home on corso Genova is a few minutes from the Darsena and from Porta Genova station, and about twenty minutes’ walk from via Tortona; we have another along the Naviglio Pavese. For the fair, take the M2 at Porta Genova and change at Cadorna.

If you’re only coming for the fair

In Rho we manage a flat for four people near the station, one train stop from Rho Fiera: dates and prices are on the booking portal, under Rho.

Our homes in Milan, area by area, are on the Milan page.

When to book

In Salone week Milan is full and prices go up: it’s worth looking for a home as soon as you know your dates, and the 2027 dates are already known. If you’re coming as a group, for work or for several nights, a flat gives you a kitchen, a table to work at in the evening and room to be together after a day on your feet.

We can’t promise you a home for that week until you find it free. How booking works, and who answers during your stay, is on our page for guests; the same homes are on Airbnb and Booking.com, on the same terms. If you can’t find the dates you want, call us on +39 011 1962 0297 or message us on WhatsApp at +39 351 361 3447.

Before you arrive you get the address and the instructions. On arrival your identity is checked against your document, as Italian law requires of every host, and we look after your arrival ourselves: the reasons are in our guide to why hosts in Italy ask for your passport.

Design in Milan, outside the week

If you come in another month, design in Milan doesn’t disappear. The ADI Design Museum, in piazza Compasso d’Oro 1, shows the historical collection of the Compasso d’Oro, Italy’s design award: furniture, lamps, household objects and industrial products that have won it since the 1950s. Check the opening hours on its website before you go: the museum is being extended and, as we write, is open with partial access.

Brera is a neighbourhood of showrooms and galleries all year round, and the Triennale is one of the places that hold design exhibitions during the Fuorisalone too. And if you have a day to spare, Turin is under an hour away by high-speed train: whether it’s worth the trip is in is Turin worth visiting?
